In Aerospace & Defense we use a ton of acronyms and long part numbers to describe processes and parts. It can be quite a bit to keep up with! So, in some cases engineers, assemblers, or inspectors come up with nicknames to describe certain parts. Here are 5 of the most common nicknames we use at InterConnect.

Here are the steps our inspectors take to inspect a ground support wiring harness. During the assembly process, inspection will be required multiple times by the assembler. In this case, we need to inspect the solder sleeves. To do that, we will inspect the front and back to ensure that there is proper flow and nothing has pierced the outer sleeve. Next, we will do a grommet inspection making sure all contacts are seated and the filler plugs are placed correctly. It all looks good!

Design engineers will spec wiring harnesses with readily available common connectors, even though all contact cavities will not be populated. Besides making the wiring harnesses less expensive and easier to procure, another positive byproduct of using common connectors is that the end user will not have to wait extra weeks for their harnesses to be built. The common connectors will reliably get the job done and there will be a few contact cavities that are left over.
